Harnessing the Power of the Sun: Brackenhurst’s Sustainability Milestone
We are excited to announce a significant development in Brackenhurst Conference and Retreat Centre’s ongoing sustainability efforts. We have recently installed a state-of-the-art 80 kW grid-tie solar system, marking a crucial step towards a greener and more sustainable future at Brackenhurst. This new development not only aligns with our commitment to reducing our environmental impact but also paves the way for a brighter, greener future.
The Power of Solar Panels:
A grid-tie solar system allows us to harness the power of the sun and convert it into electricity via the 146 solar panels around campus. The system will power the Brackenhurst Campus while remaining connected to the utility grid. The panels not only provide a consistent and reliable source of energy but also showcase the scale and ambition of our sustainability efforts.
Reducing Energy Consumption and Carbon Footprint:
Our new solar system will offset 31% of our total energy consumption, with 50% of our daytime energy needs being met by clean, renewable solar power. By reducing our reliance on conventional energy sources, we are taking a proactive stance in combating climate change by reducing our on-grid energy usage.
Powering the Campus:
The solar grid system will power most of our operations across the entire campus. Including Brackenhurst Conference and Retreat Centre, Muna Tree Café and Woodland Star School, the solar panels will help us move toward energy independence while ensuring seamless and sustainable operation of our facilities.
Environmental Impact:
One of the most compelling aspects of our solar system is its potential to offset a staggering 35 tons of carbon dioxide annually. By championing sustainable practices, we hope to inspire others in our community and the wider industry to join us in our commitment to a greener future.
